Where were you on August 8th, 2004? I pray you were not underneath the Kinzie Street Bridge in Chicago, gazing towards the sun, mouth open, the heavens calling, what a beautiful day. For if this was you, you would be moments away from having a few hundred pounds of Dave Matthews Band’s poop dumped over you. An absolute deluge of Dave Matthews Band poop. 

This iconic moment in poop history is lodged in my mind, forever, providing inspiration in ways I can only begin to surmise. Untangling the thread of how much influence the Dave Matthews Band Poopgate had on me (Shelby) personally? Impossible. 

So today for this special Monday edition of Poopstack, what this newsletter has been called all along, please enjoy some very talented grown adults discussing, drawing, and delving into (the) bowels. Have a lovely week!

It’s hard to make cartoons about poop, because poop is nature’s cartoon. How dare I try to improve on the joke that’s been honed for eons? It’s sort of like when Trump was president and SNL opening sketches went from being parodies of current events to verbatim reenactments, because some things you just don’t touch. Like poop.

Of all the wonderful poop synonyms, my favorite is the classic yet playful “doody”.

This is a self portrait of me peeing on a long hike. For the sake of this prompt, we can say it’s a self portrait of me pooping. Because honestly, they look pretty similar from this angle.

There are some cartoons I don’t even bother submitting to the New Yorker. Other weeks, I submit just one because it’s that good. I’ll let you guess which of the two this was.
